Our prerequisites for honours study are at least a credit standard GPA and a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for research.
You must have completed a Bachelor degree, or at least three years of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program.
Structure
Graduates with a minimum three-year Bachelor’s degree relevant to the project can choose to study the Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science in Dentistry either full-time over one year of study, or half-time over two years of study.A concurrent honours is available to domestic Bachelor of Dental Surgery students, permitting them to complete their Honours requirements at around the same time that they graduate with the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree. Students can enrol from the end of the third year of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree. The concurrent program is NOT available to international Bachelor of Dental Surgery students. Research Projects Research projects may be available in the following areas:> Craniofacial Biology and Oral Health: studies of normal and abnormal craniofacial growth and development, and oral health. A focus on oro-facial genetics and incorporating studies of the teeth, faces and oral health of Australian twins and other populations.> Dental Education: studies of education and learning theory and practice, with a focus on dental education.> Tooth Wear: tribological investigations of the mechanisms of tooth erosion, abrasion and attrition.> Forensic Odontology: studies of methods of identification, including the use of photographic superimposition techniques.> Oral Microbiology: studies of oral micro-organisms involved in dental caries and periodontal and endodontic diseases.> Oral Pathology: studies of pathobiology of cancer treatment related to mucosal toxicity; mucosal pathology; oral cancer.> Periodontology: properties of dental materials, ultra-structural investigations of tooth-restoration interfaces, and bio-dental imaging modalities.> Population Oral Health: research in community and preventive dentistry, risk factors for oral disease, and evaluation of dental services.> Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery.

Entry requirements
For those who are based in Adelaide, we will be offering a blended delivery mode that combines face-to-face with remote learning in as many courses as possible, taking into consideration social distancing and hygiene. All lectures will continue to be delivered online for the remainder of the year, with some exceptions.
For our students who are studying offshore for the remainder of the 2020 Academic Year, the University will continue to offer high-quality access to the learning resources remotely. This includes all lectures, tutorials and other support material. Students will be advised in advance if there are course components that cannot be provided in remote mode and, wherever possible, offered alternative courses.
