Insolvency law deals with financially distressed individuals and companies.

It’s about navigating complex legal and financial situations to ensure the best outcome for everyone involved.This program is designed for tertiary graduates (degree or diploma).

If you’re a mature, non-degree applicant, you’ll be assessed for admission on the basis of your recognised expertise and experience.

Structure

This program is generally taught over two semesters in intensive blended mode, and includes a mix of face-to-face intensives and online learning. The course is offered in both the first, winter and second semesters which run from February to June and July to November, respectively. The 'Introduction to Australian Law' course introduces the concepts, frameworks and legislation of Australian law, while the 'Insolvency Law' course provides a greater depth of understanding of the legislative framework supporting insolvency practice. The most benefit and best understanding of the program content is gained by students who complete within one year. To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in Insolvency Law, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses with a combined total of not less than 12 units, comprising: core courses to the value of 6 units elective courses to the value of 6 units.

Entry requirements

For those who are based in Adelaide, we will be offering a blended delivery mode that combines face-to-face with remote learning in as many courses as possible, taking into consideration social distancing and hygiene. All lectures will continue to be delivered online for the remainder of the year, with some exceptions.

For our students who are studying offshore for the remainder of the 2020 Academic Year, the University will continue to offer high-quality access to the learning resources remotely. This includes all lectures, tutorials and other support material. Students will be advised in advance if there are course components that cannot be provided in remote mode and, wherever possible, offered alternative courses.

Professional Accreditation

The degree allows students to demonstrate postgraduate tertiary level study in the field of insolvency law, in order to be licensed as insolvency practitioners by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), and Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA), as required by the Insolvency Law Reform Act 2016 (Cth).
