Bachelor of Studies

The Bachelor of Studies enables capable domestic senior secondary students to commence undergraduate level study while concurrently enrolled in year 11 or 12.

The Bachelor of Studies is broad-based in conceptual and theoretical content.

Students enrolled in an EXTN Extension course must be concurrently enrolled in years 11 or 12.

Applicants for the ANU Extension course must receive the endorsement of their school principal prior to being admitted to the Bachelor of Studies program;

students must also meet co-requisite study requirements at their home schools.

Results obtained in the EXTN Extension course may contribute towards the calculation of a student’s ATAR.

A selection process for entry to an EXTN Extension course is based upon the results of a test in the area of study.The Bachelor of Studies offers subjects in disciplines of national priority, including mathematics, sciences, and Asian languages.

Students who successfully complete an EXTN Extension course in the Bachelor of Studies may be offered transfer into a bachelor degree for further in-depth study and professional preparation.Some EXTN Extension courses will be available through low bandwidth on-line or blended delivery enabling students who do not live near the ANU Acton campus to undertake the program.

A virtual hall of residence supports student transition to tertiary study with tutor study support provided by undergraduate students.NOTE:

This program is not available for international students.

Program Requirements

The Bachelor of Studies requires the completion of 144 units, of which:

A maximum of 60 units can come from completion of 1000-level courses

A minimum of 36 units must come from completion of 3000-level courses

A minimum of 96 units must come from completion of courses from one ANU College

The 144 units must consist of:

EXTN1014 Advanced Music (Classical)

48 units from the completion of one major offered by ANU

24 units from the completion of one minor or specialisation offered by the same ANU College as the major

66 units from the completion of elective courses offered by ANU

To be able to progress to subject areas other than EXTN Extension, students must be awarded a year 12 certificate with an ATAR of 80 or higher.

Elective Study

Once you have met the program requirements of your degree, you may have enough electives to complete an additional elective major, minor or specialisation.

Adjustment Factors

ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 points (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustments, maximum 10 equity-based adjustments and maximum 5 Elite Athlete adjustments) will be awarded. Eligibility to apply for ANU scholarships varies depending on the specifics of the scholarship and can be categorised by the type of student you are. Specific scholarship application process information is included in the relevant scholarship listing.
