The Diploma of Languages prepares students for the increasingly multilingual and international life of the 21st century.

You will be taken on a language learning journey which is designed to engage you with the written, oral and cultural aspects of your chosen language or languages.You can choose to study a wide selection of languages, many of which are not available at any other University in Australia.

This program requires the completion of 48 units, which must consist of:

III. and transfer of credit for courses satisfying the requirement of (ii) towards the Diploma

Adjustment Factors

ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 points (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustments, maximum 10 equity-based adjustments and maximum 5 Elite Athlete adjustments) will be awarded. Scholarships

ANU offers a wide range of scholarships to students to assist with the cost of their studies.

Learning outcomes

  1. communicate proficiently and confidently in the principal studied language 
  2. identify the structure and uses of the principal language studied 
  3. demonstrate an understanding of the societies and cultures of the principal language studied, and its socio-historical context 
  4. construct a schema of the connections between the principal language studied and its geographical, social and cultural origins 
  5. recognise the importance of intercultural communication.
