Bachelor of Economics (Honours)

Honours in Economics is a program offered within the Research School of Economics that offers students who have excelled in their undergraduate studies a challenging but rewarding year of study in economics.

We seek outstanding students who are keen to undertake independent economics research with the guidance from academic staff.

Past students graduating from the Honours in Economics program have been highly successful with careers in government, Industry and academia in leading institutions and organisations around the world.

This Honours plan requires the completion of 48 units, which must consist of:

Elective Study

Once you have met the program requirements of your degree, you may have enough electives to complete an additional elective major, minor or specialisation.

Admission Requirements

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree or equivalent, completed within the last two years:

in a cognate discipline

completion of one of the following majors or equivalent:

• Mathematical Economics major
• Economics Major (must include ECON3101 and ECON3102)

completion of ECON3100 Economics 3(H) (or equivalent) and ECON2125 Optimisation for Economics and Financial Economics (or equivalent) with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units (i.e. 0.75 EFTSL) of courses with highest final marks, excluding 1000-level courses (i.e. introductory undergraduate courses), from courses from one of the majors which must include 18 units from ECON3100 Economics 3 (H), ECON3101 Microeconomics 3 and ECON3102 Macroeconomics 3.

The number of places available in the program are subject to supervisory capacity.

Adjustment Factors

ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 points (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustments, maximum 10 equity-based adjustments and maximum 5 Elite Athlete adjustments) will be awarded.
