Master of City Planning (Professional)

The Master of City Planning (Professional) program aims to produce innovative practice-oriented graduates with the capacity to play a leading role in creating sustainable cities and regions.

This program is designed to equip students for rewarding professional work planning for21stcentury global-local challenges including rapid urbanisation, climate change, resource constraints, globalisation and technological disruption.

With its distinctive interdisciplinary urban design orientation, the program will cultivate city planners and urban designers with the global perspective, knowledge, skills and adaptability to make a significant contribution to addressing these challenges.

The program concludes with a 20-week Professional Portfolio subject aimed at equipping students for professional work in City Planning.

The structure of the Master of Project Management is based on theoretical and practical subjects. This program is designed in close consultation with prominent industry professional boards to ensure the integrity and contemporary relevance of the degree.

Plus General Elective (1)

• Students must choose one elective from the list of available postgraduate subjects from across the University.  Students may apply to do an internship as an elective.

Academic entry requirements

Completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 Bachelor degree or equivalent from an approved institution.

Credit for prior study

Subject credits may be awarded for previous studies. To apply for credits, you will need to submit academic transcripts including detailed subject outlines/course descriptions for each relevant subject and/or certified copies of testamurs to the Office of Future Students. Please refer to how to apply for credit for more information

The need for strategic planning of cities is increasing globally in what has been dubbed ‘the urban century’: around four Billion people, 55% of the world’s population, now live in cities and the proportion is expected to rise to 68% by 2050. City planners will play a major role in assisting cities to meet climate change challenges and take advantage of rapid advances in technology.
