About

The primary objective of the Masterof Psychology (Clinical) Degree is to provide advanced education in the professional practice of Psychology.

The training is based on a scientist-practitioner model and is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and applied skills required by a registered practising psychologist with an emphasis in the area of program specialisation (i.e., Clinical Psychology).

The program draws from a range of theoretical perspectives informed by contemporary research and practice.

The Mastersby Coursework Degree integrates coursework, research and practical placement experience.

Students complete a series of placement experiences under the supervision of highly qualified and experienced Supervisors, and apply best practice models to a professional standard.

Upon successful completion of program requirements, graduates are eligible to apply for full registration as a Psychologist, full membership of the APS, and associate membership of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

  • Psychopathology and Therapy: Adults 1 (PSYC71-506)
  • Health Psychology (PSYC71-509)
  • Psychopathology and Therapy: Adults 2 (PSYC71-607)
  • Psychopathology & Therapy: Families, Children & Adolescents (PSYC71-608)

Electives (1)

Students must choose one (1) elective subject from:

  • Psychopharmacology and Pharmacotherapy (PSYC71-611)
  • Advanced Cognitive Neuropsychology (PSYC71-417)

Practical (4)

  • Internship: Part A (PSYC71-731)
  • Internship: Part B (PSYC71-732)
  • Externship I* (PSYC71-733)
  • Externship II* (PSYC71-734)

Students complete the first two-semester internship at the psychology clinic located on campus under staff supervision, and two externships in a clinical community setting under external supervision.

*Bond University cannot guarantee the availability of suitable externships on the Gold Coast. Students may be required to travel to up to 100 km from the University (e.g., Brisbane and northern New South Wales) to complete this requirement. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from Externship sites.

Students undertake a research project that allows them to investigate, and report on, a specialised topic in the area of clinical psychology.

International students

Students must enrol in 30 credit points per semester.

Domestic students

Students must enrol in 30 credit points per semester.

Entry requirements

Academic entry requirements

Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited 4 year sequence of study in psychology (e.g., Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours); Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science or equivalent) within the last 10 years, and have achieved a minimum of one of H2A (Upper Second Class Honours), or 75% and above for consideration. Applicants must also be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist. Applicants are assessed on academic performance, 2 referee reports and personal suitability via interview.

Applications are also accepted into the Master of Clinical Psychology Program at Bond University from board registered Psychologists who have successfully completed the Master of Professional Psychology program or a Level 3 accredited APAC psychology program with a Distinction GPA level.  Applicants will submit the same documents as outlined above.

Students who have obtained their qualifications outside Australia must have their qualifications assessed prior to applying for this program and prior to applying for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. The Australian Psychological Society (APS) provides this assessment service for the Board and the assessment assists the Board in determining if the student’s qualifications are equivalent to an ‘approved qualification’. However, it is important to note the final decision on equivalence rests with the Board. For more information on equivalency assessments please visit Australian Psychological Society.

Students must obtain provisional registration from the Psychology Board of Australia before commencing the program.

All students must obtain provisional registration from the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA).

Obtaining provisional registration can be a lengthy process. The University will assist students as far as possible with their application to the Board.

Under the National Law, students must obtain provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia before they commence their program of study, and for the duration of the program. In the event that the Registration Board refuses an application for provisional registration, the offer of candidature in the program will be rescinded – it is not possible to complete the program without holding provisional registration as a psychologist.

Bond University takes no responsibility for students who do not fulfil the requirements for registration and admission to the program.

Learning outcomes

The program meets the requirements set out by the Psychology Board of Australia. Graduates will be eligible to apply for full registration after two years of provisional registration. Graduates will be eligible to apply for membership to the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and for associate membership of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
