The September semester for this program will be delivered in a multi-modal format, with classes designed to support and engage all learners.

Whether they’re on campus or abroad, all students will be able to access Bond’s exceptional and personalised learning experience through dynamic and interactive lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and lab sessions.English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is designed to improve your academic English and study skills so you can enrol in a Bond University program.

The EAP program is a full-time program encompassing three levels with each level taking one semester (14 weeks) to complete.

Bond University College runs three semesters per year so it is possible to complete all three levels within 12 months and transition seamlessly to degree-level studies at Bond University.

Structure

Content

  • Level One - 14 weeks/1 semesterDevelops language and study skills through planning and writing essays, improving reading speed, learning how to take and organise notes, planning and delivering short speeches and presentations.
  • Level Two - 14 weeks/1 semesterDevelops writing skills, research skills for essay writing, text analysis skills and note-taking strategies.
  • Level Three - 14 weeks/1 semesterConcentrates on developing skills in writing reports and essays, note-taking from written and spoken texts, understanding university lectures, research and study skills, arguments and debates.

Assessment

In each level, EAP students are assessed in the four macro skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking through:

  • Ongoing assignments throughout the semester
  • A mid-semester exam (Week 7)
  • A final exam (Week 14)

Study schedule

Full-time study involves 25 hours per week, with five of those hours being for independent study and/or individual consultation. Intakes for each EAP level are accepted in January, May and September, in line with Bond University’s academic semesters – holiday periods of 3-5 weeks are allocated between each 14-week semester. This allows you to progress easily into the University’s degree programs when the time comes.

Entry requirements

Entry to Bond University College's EAP program is via one of the following methods:

  • International English Language Testing System - Academic (IELTS Academic)
  • Pearson Test of English -Academic (PTE Academic)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language - Internet Based Test (TOEFL - IBT)
  • Cambridge English: Advanced

Test scores for the following tests can be used as a guide and all students will be required to be tested on arrival using a placement test. The placement test will determine the actual level of the English tuition required.

  • EIKEN 英検 English test
  • College English Test (CET)  大学四六级英语考试/大学公共英语考试
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language - Institutional Testing Program (TOEFL - ITP). Institutional and Public tests.
  • Test of English for International Communication - Listening and Reading Test (TOEIC - Listening and Reading Test)

Please note that English language test results must be no older than 24 months when the applicant commences their program.
