Diploma of Criminology

The Diploma of Criminology provides a fascinating introduction to the study of criminology with subjects including Media and Crime, Forensic Victimology, Crime and Deviance and the Australian Criminal Justice System.

The Diploma of Criminology will teach students core skills to enhance their career prospects, whether that be a student fresh out of high school or someone wishing to upgrade their qualifications.

Some core skills covered include;

familiarity with the criminal justice system and the ability to draw on knowledge and perspectives from a range of disciplines such as law, sociology, psychology and history.

Communicating in groups, problem solving, decision making, rational and critical thinking, an understanding of ethics, morals and cultural beliefs.

It will allow students to question why different societies define and respond to crime in different ways.

Successful completion of the Diploma of Criminology will provide students with either a pathway to Bond University undergraduate degrees or a start to your career in intelligence analysis, research, or consulting in the areas of state and federal government, law enforcement or crime research.

Successful completion of the Diploma of Criminology guarantees students a place in most undergraduate degrees at Bond University, with a possible 80 credit points credited towards their new program of study.

Students are advised to check the degree study structures online to confirm for which subjects they may receive credit.

The Diploma of Criminology is a two semester (full-time) program of 8 subjects and 1 compulsory skills building subject.

Mandatory subjects

Students must complete the following mandatory subjects for the Diploma of Criminology:

• BCAS01-020 Academic Skills*
• BCDP02-014 Crime and Deviance in Australia 
• BCDP02-015 Contemporary Issues in Law and Society 
• BCDP02-033 Introduction to Global Citizenship
• BCDP02-101 Critical Thinking and Communication 
• BCDP02-102 Collaboration, Teams and Leadership
• BCDP02-103 Responsibility, Integrity and Civic Discourse

Elective subjects

Students must complete two of the following elective subjects for the Diploma of Criminology:

• BCDP02-013 The Australian Criminal Justice System 
• BCDP02-016 Forensic Victimology 
• BCDP02-017 Media and Crime 

*BCAS01-020 Academic Skills is a compulsory 0 credit point subject that provides you with core academic skills including referencing, academic writing and time management. It must be completed in your first semester (weeks 2 to 6).

Domestic students

Entry into the Diploma of Criminology requires the successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent (OP 16 – 20/ATAR 64.95-50.00). Bond University College offers tertiary preparation programs (Foundation Program and Diploma Preparation Program) for students who do not currently have the required academic qualifications.

• Work experience - ANZCO Skill level 3 for 1 year full-time equivalent
• Incomplete Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation (passing grades in 2 subjects)
• STAT result of 144
• OP ineligible Schedule equivalent rank to OP 16 - 20
