The Diploma of Legal Studies will be of interest to students planning a career where a knowledge of fundamental legal principles and basic legal skills will be of use, e.g.
business administration, legal administration, federal, state or local government administration.
It will also be of interest to students who have a general interest in the law as an area of study.
The Diploma of Legal Studies will teach students core skills to enhance their career prospects, whether that be a student fresh out of school or someone wishing to upgrade their qualifications.Some core skills covered include;familiarity with the fundamental features of Australia’s legal system, the principles of business law and contract law, contemporary legal and ethical issues confronting Australian society, communicating in groups, conflict resolution, problem solving, individual and group decision making, and an understanding of ethics, morals and cultural beliefs.
Successful completion of the Diploma of Legal Studies guarantees students a place in most undergraduate degrees at Bond University, with a possible 80 credit points credited towards their new program of study.
Students are advised to check the degree study structures online to confirm for which subjects they may receive credit.
Structure
The Diploma of Legal Studies is a two semester (full-time) program of 8 compulsory subjects and 1 compulsory skills building subject. Students must complete the following (8) subjects for the Diploma of Legal Studies:

- BCDP02-101 Critical Thinking and Communication
- BCDP02-102 Collaboration, Teams and Leadership
- BCDP02-103 Responsibility, Integrity and Civic Discourse
- BCDP02-033 Introduction to Global Citizenship
- BCDP02-024 Business Law
- BCDP02-015 Contemporary Issues in Law and Society
- BCDP02-105 Legal Foundations A
- BCDP02-106 Legal Foundations B
*BCAS01-020 Academic Skills is a compulsory 0 credit point subject that provides you with core academic skills including referencing, academic writing and time management. It must be completed in your first semester (Weeks 2 to 6)

Entry requirements
Domestic students
Entry into the Diploma of Legal Studies requires the successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent (OP 9 – 15 or ATAR 61.85 or better). Bond University College offers preparation programs (Foundation Program with an exit Cumulative Grade Point Average of 70% and Diploma Preparation Program with an exit Cumulative Grade Point Average of 65%) for students who do not currently have the required academic qualifications.
- Work experience - ANZCO Skill level 3 for greater than 1 year full-time equivalent
- Incomplete Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation (3 subjects with grade average of 4.76-5.25)
- STAT result of 149
- OP ineligible Schedule equivalent rank OP 9 – 15
If you do not meet direct entry, Bond University College offers the Diploma Preparation Program . You will qualify for the Diploma of Legal Studies if you successfully complete the Diploma Preparation Program with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 65%.
