Master of Laws

The September semester for this program will be delivered in a multi-modal format, with classes designed to support and engage all learners.

The Master of Laws program comprises 80 credit points of law subjects from the list of postgraduate law electives. There are no compulsory subjects, which enables students to tailor the Master of Laws to their interests.

Students can graduate with a Master of Laws with a specialisation by completing at least 40 credit points of subjects from one of our specialisation categories. The name of the specialisation appears on the students' testamur. However, students are not required to complete a specialisation and may choose to graduate with a general Master of Laws by completing any combination of law subjects totalling 80 credit points.

Teaching methodology

Bond University’s teaching methodology involves a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, examinations, projects, presentations, assignments, computer labs and industry projects.

Specialisations

Specialisations are currently available in the following areas:

• Corporate and Commercial Law and Practice
• Family Dispute Resolution
• International Business and Finance Law
• Dispute Resolution
• Canadian Law and Practice
• International Commercial Law and Dispute Resolution (online)

To be eligible for a specialisation, students must complete at least 40 credit point subjects within the specialisation category.  No general electives are offered in this program.

International Student visa holders please note: Under Australian student visa regulations the number of online subjects undertaken by student visa holders in this program cannot exceed 20 credit points. The remaining 60 credit points must be comprised of on-campus subjects.

Academic entry requirements

The Master of Laws is offered to students who have completed a professional law qualification such as a Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor, or equivalent. Applicants from a non-English speaking background must achieve an IELTS score of at least 6.5, with no single band less than 6. Bond also accepts other English language tests including TOEFL iBT, CAE and PTE.

As tuition is delivered in English, all students will be required to provide documented evidence of the required level of proficiency in the English language. Read more detailed information on English Language Proficiency Requirements for university study.

Credit for prior study

Subject credits may be awarded for previous studies. To apply for credits, you will need to submit academic transcripts including detailed subject outlines/course descriptions for each relevant subject and/or certified copies of testamurs to the Office of Future Students. Please refer to how to apply for credit for more information.

For domestic students, the Master of Laws provides a specialist postgraduate qualification to augment the practice of law in Australia. For international students, the program provides a wide range of subjects to broaden and internationalise an undergraduate law qualification.
