About
The Bachelor of the Built Environment (Architecture) will provide you with a liberal understanding of what it means to be an architect in a globalised and dynamic world.
Contextually informed by its location in the designed capital city of Canberra, the architecture program focuses on architecture and the city;
exploring the ways in which architecture studio, history and theory, technology and sustainability, and digital production and communication methods come together in the analysis and production of urban built form.If your career goal is to become an architect, this is the first of two degrees needed to achieve professional registration, with the second being the Master of Architecture.
This course has been specifically designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to ultimately practice in the architectural profession, and to be a future leader in the design of the built environment.Work Integrated Learning is embedded in this course, providing you with opportunities for direct industry engagement at every level of your study.
A feature of the course includes engaging with leading design professionals and industry practitioners to gain valuable real-world architectural experience through the delivery of a series of ‘live’ projects.
Internships at local, national and international architecture firms are also promoted.To gain professional registration as an architect you’ll need to complete both the Bachelor of Built Environment (Architecture) and the Master of Architecture.
Successful completion of the bachelor provides the basis for direct entry into the Master of Architecture program.Signature overseas study options have been tailored specifically to this course to ensure that students are globally connected.
You’ll be provided with the opportunity to work with leading practitioners and students at a variety of overseas institutions.The course is compliant with the National Competency Standards in Architecture (NCSA), as accredited by the Australian state and territory architect registration boards.

- CM0004 Core Major in the Built Environment (24 credit points) Required - Must pass 18 credit points as follows 10334 - Professional Orientation (Built Environment) - 3 cp, Level 1 11014 - BE: Analysis Studio - 3 cp, Level 1 11015 - Heritage Conservation - 3 cp, Level 1 11016 - BE: History and Culture - 3 cp, Level 1 11017 - Professional Practice 1: Work Integrated Learning - 3 cp, Level 2 11019 - Professional Evidence (Built Environment) - 3 cp, Level 3 Restricted Choice - 6 credit points as follows Part A - Must pass 3 credit points from the following 11013 - Pixels and Polygons - 3 cp, Level 1 11624 - BE Digital Design Techniques 01: Fundamentals - 3 cp, Level 1 Note:From 2020 unit 11624 BE Digital Design Techniques 01: Fundamentals has replaced unit 11013 Pixels & Polygons. Students who have not already passed 11013 must complete 11624. Part B - Must pass 3 credit points from the following 11018 - Professional Practice 2: Work Integrated Learning - 3 cp, Level 3 11574 - Professional Practice: WIL Studio 3 - 3 cp, Level 3 Note:From 2020 unit 11574 Professional Practice: WIL Studio 3 has replaced unit 11018 Professional Practice 2: WIL.
