The Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) prepares for a career in teaching English to speakers of other language, or a foreign language, in Australia and overseas.

Previous teaching experience is not necessary.

The course integrates theory and practice in TESOL and Foreign Language Teaching, including teaching methodology, linguistics for language teachers, and a first practice experience.

Graduates will have advanced knowledge and skills for professional practice in language teaching and learning.

Progression from this course to the Graduate Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) and the Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) is available by enrolling in additional units.

Structure

Graduate Certificate in TESOL and Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) (12 credit points) Required - Must pass 12 credit points as follows
  • 11381 - Language Teaching Methodology G - 3 cp, Level G 11382 - Language Teaching Experience G - 3 cp, Level G 11383 - Language in Social Context G - 3 cp, Level G 11384 - Study of Language G - 3 cp, Level G
Restricted Choice - May select from
  • These units may be substituted for required units 11383 Language in Social Context G and/or 11384 Study Language G with approval of the Program Director.
  • 11387 - Language Acquisition PG - 3 cp, Level P 11388 - English Grammar PG - 3 cp, Level P

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree or equivalent as approved by the University Admissions Committee. No teaching experience is required.
