The Bachelor of Educational Studies offers a flexible three year undergraduate degree with a wide range of opportunities and choices available to graduates.

It offers flexibility in education career options, such as vacation care, homework centres, tutoring in private colleges and home tutoring.

It also gives those candidates with an interest in education the option of studying a broad range of Education subjects relating to education as a discipline (non-teaching).

This course is not a professional teaching qualification.

It allows students flexibility in the construction of a course of study that they consider will best meet their future needs.

Structure

Common Units(2 units) - 20cp

Common units totalling 20 credit points as detailed below. CUC107 Cultural Intelligence and Capability (compulsory)

PLUS EITHER CUC100 Academic Literacies Through Exploring Sustainability OR CUC106 Design and Innovation: Communicating Technology Select Common Units to find out more about individual units and advanced standing options.

Core Units(6 units) - 60cp

Compulsory Core units totalling 60 credit points as detailed below.

EST200 Child and Adolescent Development EST203 Teaching Indigenous Learners EST300 Assessment, Moderation and Reporting EST302 Researching Classroom Practice EST303 Special Needs in the Classroom EST305 Socially Inclusive Pedagogy (replaces EST304 Diversity and Inclusive Education from 2020)

Specialist Electives(11 - 13 units) - 130cp

Specialist Elective units totalling 130 credit points selected from core or specialist elective units listed for either the WEDP01 Bachelor of Education Primary or the WEDS01 Bachelor of Education Secondary.

Electives(3 units) - 30cp

Elective units totalling 30 credit points selected from any undergraduate units offered by the University. Students may select units from the WEDP01 or the WEDS01 if desired.

Entry requirements

There is no direct entry into this course. This course is only available as an internal course transfer from the Bachelor of Education Primary or the Bachelor of Education Secondary. Students must complete a minimum of 40 credit points in the Bachelor of Education Primary or the Bachelor of Education Secondary to be eligible to apply for transfer.
