About
The Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations) will prepare you for a career as a commercial pilot.
You will gain the academic and aeronautical knowledge required to achieve a Commercial Pilot Licence and Command Instrument Rating.
In the first year of your study, you will fly solo in the circuit area of the training aerodrome.
You will learn about the physics of aviation, flight planning, navigation, performance, loading and operations pertaining to small general aviation aircraft.
You will calculate basic flight plans and fuel plans.
You will also study meteorological, and navigational factors that affect flying, such as aerodrome forecasts and area forecasts.
You will develop knowledge of planing flights on navigational charts and airspace requirements.
You will also be introduced to the laws that are relevant to aviation.
During your second year, you will learn the aerodynamics, aeronautical knowledge, meteorology, navigation, flight planning, and weight and balance required by a commercial pilot.
You will learn about the human factors that impact commercial pilots.
You will also cover flight planning and navigation both visually and using instruments.
If you wish to become a commercial pilot you will need to complete the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations) in addition to the Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations).
All practical flight training components after your first solo flight are delivered in the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations).
You will not be eligible for enrolment in the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations) until you have successfully completed the first term of the Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations).
Please check the Student Handbook for detailed information regarding the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations).
