About

The Graduate Certificate in Dementia Studies focuses on issues surrounding dementia.

It provides an introduction to dementia care concepts that can be immediately applied in practical situations when caring for a person with dementia and their significant others.

It also provide insights into the impact of dementia nationally and globally ensuring that you graduate with the knowledge and skills to apply a holistic approach to the care of persons with dementia, regardless of community in which they reside.

This course is aimed at those currently working in the health care and welfare sector or who have a qualification (VET or Higher Ed) in health or welfare who wish to obtain the specialised skills and insight to provide care to clients with dementia and their significant others.

Additionally you will be introduced to problem solving strategies surrounding issues as a result of the rising prevalence of dementia.

1 A completed bachelor degree in any discipline from an Australian university or college or equivalent;

2. A recognised diploma and two years relevant work experience plus recognised prior learning (RPL) involving continuous professional development as evidenced by at least one of the following:

· Significant contribution to industry;

· Promotion in the workplace;

· Recognition by a professional body;

· Community/industry leadership

· Receipt of significant prizes and/or awards;

· Personal references that attest to the applicants high level performance in the workplace/industry/community, or

· Publications/patents/copyright.

  1. A minimum of five years relevant professional experience with considerable recognised prior learning (RPL) in the discipline area involving continuous professional development as evidenced by at least two or more of the following:

· Significant contribution to industry;

· Promotion in the workplace;

· Recognition by a professional body;

· Community/industry leadership

· Receipt of significant prizes and/or awards;

· Personal references that attest to the applicants high level performance in the workplace/industry/community, or

· Publications/patents/copyright.

If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa or USA you are required to meet the English Language Prerequisite by:

  • an academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) completed within the last 2 years (from the term you are applying to start) with a minimum achievement of 6.5 across all bands and overall; OR
  • a secondary or university qualification which is not more than 5 years old (from the term you are applying for entry into) with a satisfactory level of achievement of at least 2 years in duration from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa or USA.
