About
Associate Degrees prepare students to develop broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional/highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 6 qualifications.
In the first year, students will gain essential grounding in the fine art discipline with core units in the Humanities broadening their studies to include Academic communication and conduct. The second year will focus on methodology in the field of art and how to create a well-informed art project. Both first and second year contain theory units and practical units.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials.
Structure
Associate Degrees typically contains a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. Students can take between 200 to 250 credit points at first year level.

Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply discipline knowledge of creative production in both studio practice and art critical discourse; contribute to evidence based practice through visual research
2. think critically and reflectively by incorporating creativity within visual research and studio practice
3. demonstrate effective visual, spoken and written communication appropriate to both studio practice and art critical discourse
4. recognise the significance of international visual arts and cultural practice in the development of local and national professional contemporary visual arts production
5. recognise the importance of cultural diversity and visual language; respect individuals from all cultures; develop cross-cultural collaborations that foster innovation and diversity in the visual arts
6. demonstrate personal awareness of a critically reflective studio practice; apply effective self-directed learning skills; sustain an engagement with visual culture and creative industries
Duration and Availability
The course is two years' full-time or equivalent part-time study. This course is only available to incarcerated students through the Justice and Equity Through Art (JETA) program.

Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences.
