About
Foundation Studies are pre-university studies which prepare students for undergraduate study. The Foundation Program (Dubai) comprises studies conducted over two study periods on a trimester basis. On successful completion, this course will enable entry into Curtin University undergraduate studies
Structure
The Foundation program comprises studies 8 units of study conducted over two study periods on a trimester basis. Students who have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Studies may qualify for the Advanced Entry Trimester, and will only need to complete four units.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. develop cognitive and technical skills for the application of knowledge, concepts and principles in the discipline, as a foundation for undergraduate study
2. demonstrate academic skills of critical thinking and analysis by engaging with specific content and controversial themes
3. locate, extract and critically appraise relevant evidence in the discipline
4. demonstrate oral presentation and writing skills appropriate to university entry level
5. use electronic resources to effectively collect, collate information and to communicate effectively
6. apply independent learning and self-management strategies to manage academic work commitments
7. explore, examine and critically analyse ‘globalisation’ in the context of their discipline
8. develop critical appreciation of the major perspectives from which behaviour, attitudes, thoughts, interactions, literature, language, society, culture and communications are presented and interpreted
9. work independently and in teams with integrity to achieve academic and personal goals
Duration and Availability
This course is 2 trimesters full-time study. Students who have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Studies and have the required level of English may qualify for the Advanced Entry Trimester, and will only need to complete four select units.

Entry requirements
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5 (or equivalent score in another recognised examination or being a proven first language English speaker who completed all primary and secondary education in English) or, IGCSE/GCSE/GCE ‘O’ Level, AS Level, A Level English exam: C or better ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS SCORES Australian/American High School curriculum: Successful completion of Year/Grade 11 British system (IGCSE/GCSE/O-levels/AS Levels, A Levels, BTEC Level 3): Completion of 5 IGCSE/GCSE/O-levels International Baccalaureate: Evidence of successful completion of the first year of IB Diploma studies West African curriculum: C6 average in at least 5 subjects in the WASSCE with a minimum of C4 in Math and C6 in English French curriculum: Successful completion of the Premier grade at High School achieving a minimum of 11 overall Philippines curriculum: Completion of Secondary Certificate * Other curriculum evaluated as required. Students who meet the minimum requirements must complete 8 modules while those with more advanced qualifications# including an Academic IELTS score of 6.0 upon entry may receive advanced standing for four modules. Students who have completed the IBCP and had an Academic IELTS score of 6.0 upon entry may receive advanced standing for four modules. The modules for students with such advanced standing are shown as “Single Trimester” in the streamed version of the program. More advanced qualifications would be completion of multiple AS level examinations, 12 points in the IB Diploma Program, completion of the IB Career Diploma, completion of the US GED, completion of part of a foundation program at another university, or similar qualifications that are half way or more from the minimum entry into the GIFP to the direct entry qualification for Curtin University undergraduate studies.
