Graduate Certificates prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.

This course is designed to meet the needs of those already working in the human resource management field who do not hold a first degree, or those who wish to become human resource management/industrial relations professionals. Satisfactory performance in the graduate certificate provides entry to the related graduate diploma course and the Master of Human Resources Course.

Course Accreditation

This course is accredited in Australia by the Australian Human Resources Institute.

Structure

Graduate Certificates contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences.

This course include units in human resource management overview, international industrial relations, human resource development and employee relations in Australia.

Course Learning Outcomes

A graduate of this course can:

1. synthesise relevant theories, concepts and techniques and apply them to designing solutions to a range of workplace-based human resource and management issues

2. critically evaluate advanced theoretical and technical knowledge and skills relating to human resource management functions; assess contextual variables in determining which models and theories best inform possible solutions to human resources problems

3. gather and evaluate credible information from multiple sources to make supported judgments and decisions about human resources issues

4. employ empathetic and effective communication practices relevant to diverse audiences and human resource management contexts

5. use relevant technologies, recognising their benefits and limitations when applied to human resource management functions and activities

6. build personal and professional knowledge that advances goals and professional outcomes

7. describe how human resource and industrial relations practices in developing countries differ from those found in developed countries

8. critically evaluate and model the contribution cultural diversity can make to improving business and professional practice

Entry requirements

Applicants for a Graduate Certificate are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://study.curtin.edu.au/. Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent credit gained for recognised learning. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.

Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree in an unrelated discipline or a minimum of five years relevant substantial work experience.

Credit for Recognised Learning

Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. This course is an exit award of the GD-HUMRES Graduate Diploma in Human Resources.

Specific Course Completion Details

Students are required to complete the Post-Entry Language Assessment (PELA).
