Graduate Diplomas prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
This course is ideal for students with a technical or non-business background wishing to develop an understanding of the functional areas of business. By provision of a broad coverage of core business related topics students will be well prepared to move into leadership and management roles.

Structure
Graduate Diplomas contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply a thorough discipline specific foundation of contemporary business theories, concepts and principles in a group or organisational environment; independently identify and investigate a research problem
2. create, critically evaluate and reflect upon innovative ideas and strategies within ambiguous and uncertain business environments (including business, government and not-for-profit organisations)
3. select appropriate information using technologies; make valid judgments and synthesise information from a range of sources; access, evaluate and synthesise diverse information for intelligent business application
4. communicate effectively in ways to appropriately interpret technical and non-technical information to a varied audience, for a range of purposes and to a professional standard
5. select and use appropriate technologies and recognise their advantages and limitations
6. possess and be able to utilise life-long learning strategies; maintain currency in professional practice
7. recognise and apply international perspectives within the business environment; apply international standards of practice and evaluate issues from a variety of perspectives
8. develop shared understandings of contemporary relevant issues which demonstrate a high and balanced level of cultural awareness in a diverse cultural business setting
9. apply professional skills- team work, leadership and ethical behaviour. Demonstrate, through self-leadership, a duty of care, honesty, integrity, fairness and knowledge of principles and law to uphold the ethical requirements of the profession
Duration and Availability
This course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. Depending on unit selection, this course can be studied fully online. International students on student visas are not permitted to study fully online. All majors within this course are available to international students studying in Australia on a study visa.

Entry requirements
Applicants for a Graduate Diploma are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://study.curtin.edu.au/. Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Applicants require a bachelor degree or postgraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or a Graduate Certificate in Business from Curtin Business School, with a CWA of at least 70%, and at least five years relevant work experience at a managerial level. Applicants are required to submit a CV, personal statement, employer recommendation and referee recommendation. Entry to the course is competitive and applicants may be required to undertake an interview as the final stage of application assessment.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Credit for recognised learning is not available for the Graduate Diploma in Business. Students may be offered waivers for certain units under specific circumstances but must select other approved units as a substitute.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course:

This course is an exit award of the MC-BUSADM Master of Business Administration, and the MM-MECBAD Master of Science (Mineral and Energy Economics), Master of Business Administration.
This course requires completion of 25 hours of professional development.
