Graduate Diplomas prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
The Graduate Diploma in Cyber Security is aimed at graduates with a Computing background and provides a detailed coverage of the key concepts and challenges in data and resource protection and computer software security. The course focuses on both the high level (e.g. cryptography theory and data access policy development and security program management) and low level practical (e.g. computer forensics, network intrusion detection and incident handling) aspects of information security.
Professional Recognition
Graduates may be eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

Structure
Graduate Diplomas contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. assess the theoretical concepts involved in data encryption and intrusion detection and deploy them in a modern day Information Technology system
2. evaluate the various approaches to encryption and security detection and develop a strategy for adapting them to a specific situation
3. evaluate and synthesise information from a variety of sources and develop a plan to optimize computer security, data encryption and intrusion management
4. assess computer security management processes and explain them in written and oral form to both technical and non-technical audiences
5. evaluate and select appropriately from existing and emerging encryption, computer security prevention and intrusion technologies
6. engage in continual updating of knowledge with regard to new and emerging computer security concepts, issues and management strategies
7. evaluate and interpret The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, The Association for Computing Machinery and the Australian Computer Society standards related to data encryption, computer security protection and management
8. understand the ethical issues related to protecting the rights of individuals from diverse cultures and how that maps to ensuring the security and integrity of data in an Information Technology system
9. develop policies and practical procedures to improve the security setup of an Information Technology organization

Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree in the discipline of computing, or equivalent, from a recognised tertiary educational institution.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences.
