In this major students will focus on a range of theoretical and professional aspects of architecture and urban environments. In the first semester of this major student will be introduced to architectural practice, ethics and codes of conduct, and will be able to explore a nominated research topic in preparation for their research project in second semester. In this second semester capstone project students will develop methods of communication and design skills specific to their selected stream.

A graduate of this course can:
1. demonstrate an understanding of the Built Environment industry, apply the principles, theories and concepts of cross-disciplinary knowledge and draw upon appropriate knowledge of social, economic and environmental factors
2. think critically, creatively and reflectively in order to analyse problems and issues; challenge theories and practices; and understand the specific needs of various stakeholders in order to generate creative, effective and sustainable solutions relevant to the Built Environment industry
3. critically access, evaluate and synthesise information in order to support, comprehend and analyse the diverse processes of strategic and sustainable decision making relevant across disciplines within the Built Environment industry
4. effectively communicate information and ideas graphically, orally, and in writing, to diverse audiences (academic, professional and community)
5. recognise, understand and use a range of appropriate technologies in order to undertake cross-disciplinary practices and facilitate professional processes within the Built Environment industry
6. use learned skills and a range of strategies that will continue professional self-development, influence others within the built environment industry, and sustain intellectual curiosity
7. demonstrate a high level of awareness and skill in understanding, valuing and responding to cultural diversity and difference across a range of local, national and international issues and perspectives in the Built Environment industry
8. work ethically as individuals and in teams demonstrating skills in leadership negotiation and conflict resolution, recognising cultural and physical diversity and appreciating and valuing the contribution of other disciplines and interests
9. recognise and consider the needs and aspirations of diverse populations and demonstrate a professional and ethical approach while using skills in leadership and self-motivation to work individually and in teams, across disciplines within the Built Environment industry
