MJRU-ACTUA v.1 Actuarial Science Major (BSc Actuarial Sci)

Curtin University

About

This major/stream is part of a larger course. Information is specific to the major/stream, please refer to the course for more information.

The BSc (Actuarial Science) degree offers students the opportunity of gaining exemptions in the eight (8) subjects that makes up Part 1 of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia examinations. The course is recommended for students who intend to complete further studies and qualify as an Actuary and perhaps a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Structure

Major/Stream Learning Outcomes

A graduate of this course can:

1. synthesise actuarial concepts to identify a problem, research and interpret the data and apply appropriate techniques to develop effective solutions

2. apply logic and relevant actuarial skills; critically assess solutions to challenging problems

3. identify, collect and analyse relevant data from relevant sources, using appropriate judgement and techniques and judgement to address the problem

4. communicate effectively and efficiently in a manner appropriate to the audience and purpose

5. apply computer modelling software appropriately to gather and prepare data, perform calculations, analyse and communicate results

6. interpret the technical framework of actuarial science and work as a responsible, reflective, self-directed and motivated life-long learner

7. show a high level of awareness of nationally and internationally relevant developments and contemporary issues

8. develop shared understandings of contemporary relevant issues which demonstrate a high and balanced level of cultural awareness and understanding in diverse cultural settings
