This major is structured to allow students to develop their interest and build their careers in photography. Students will learn professional skills tailored towards their interest in the area of image making. Exploration, interpretation, development and realisation of ideas for both commercial and personal outcomes will be addressed in this major. Both traditional and digital techniques will be covered in the photography area. Professional practice will involve application in advertising, graphic design, publishing, game design, educational and instructional design areas.

Major Overview Note
Students choosing this major within the B-DESIGN Bachelor of Design degree will also choose another major or two minors or a minor and an elective stream. Choosing a second major allows students to study in an additional discipline area. Choosing two minors or a minor and an elective stream allows students to undertake further study in the discipline of their first major or choose from a variety of units from around the University.

A graduate of this course can:
1. apply discipline knowledge to critically review, analyse, consolidate and contribute to evidence-based practice in photography
2. demonstrate cognitive and technical skills in both a broad understanding and depth in photography
3. use and discern between a range of photography technologies and media platforms in the production of photography-based solutions
4. demonstrate effective visual, spoken, written and technical communication appropriate to the photography discipline and apply effective self-directed learning skills
5. demonstrate personal awareness of a photography specific practice and sustain an engagement with contemporary practices, technologies and the creative industries
6. develop a predictive overview of future trends that will influence photography and photography practices
7. recognise the importance of social, ethical and cultural diversity and consider local and international perspectives in photography activities, studio practice and production
8. demonstrate how intercultural awareness and understanding impacts on personal and professional skills and on the ability to lead
9. work independently and collaboratively on photography projects and respond to project demands
Duration and Availability
This major is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units may be available via external study and some units may not be available in every semester. This major is available to international students studying in Australia on as study visa.
