STRP-RENEW v.1 Renewable Energy Systems Stream (MAdvEng)
Curtin University
About
This major/stream is part of a larger course. Information is specific to the major/stream, please refer to the course for more information.
Renewable Energy is fast becoming a significant source of people’s energy needs. In contrast to the conventional fossil fuel sources, renewable energy sources make no environmental pollutions while being available freely and abundantly all over the world. However due to their intermittent availability and low energy density, integrating renewable energy into existing power systems has become a significant engineering challenge. The use of energy storages such as battery banks is becoming common practice even at large power levels. This stream will focus on the most commonly available energy sources, storages and how they can be integrated into existing power systems as well as future smart grids. New generation technologies such as fuel cells and the smart grid enabling technologies such as wireless communication networks are also dealt in this course. Students graduating in this stream will be equipped with the much sought after engineering knowledge to solve complex engineering challenges in the renewable energy field.
