About

This nationally-recognised qualification is the second year of a two-year vocational Production and Design program.

The course is structured to provide skills and experience consistent with the growing needs of the entertainment industry.

Students work as directed on productions mounted by WAAPA and begin by assisting until sufficiently skilled to perform designated tasks.

In the final year of the program, students will be expected to provide service to the productions at a professional level of competence.

Structure

This course comprises eight core units and six elective units. The six elective units may be undertaken in the streams of Costume, Design, Lighting, Props and Scenery, and Stage Management.

Entry requirements

Admission requirement (Band 1)

  • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent.

English Language requirement (Band 1)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 10 English completion or equivalent.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to provide a portfolio and attend an interview. Entry to this qualification is limited to those who have completed CUAWHS302 Apply work health and safety practices or can demonstrate equivalence; and are able to demonstrate technical production skills in at least one specialisation that support learning at Advanced Diploma level. A specialisation could comprise skills in at least one of the following areas: costume; lighting; screen and media; production design; scenery and props; sound; stage management; staging; or vision systems. In particular, they must be able to provide evidence of their ability to develop solutions in at least one specialisation; produce a body of work demonstrating technical skills in at least one specialisation; respond effectively to workplace challenges and requirements in line with current industry standards; and apply knowledge of trends and traditions in at least one specialisation. Those skills and knowledge may have been acquired through personal or work experience, or through formal study. , All applicants should normally be turning at least 18 by 30th June in the year of commencing the course.
