This double degree enables students to succeed in today's rapidly changing society in both critical and productive fields, such as Historical and Political Studies and Broadcasting and Digital Journalism, or Visual Arts and Screen Production, or Creative and Professional Writing and Public Relations.

There are numerous combinations of majors the students can choose from.

Engaging in both Arts and Media and Communication broadens students' understanding of themselves, their community and the larger world, as well as providing them with the theoretical and practical dimensions of communication.

It is an engaging program leading to a double degree which is internationally recognised in the global marketplace.

Students will be required to complete eight core units (120 credit points)

Students are also required to complete an eight unit major from within the Bachelor of Arts: Creative and Professional Writing, English, Political and Historical Studies, or Visual Arts.

Students are also required to complete an eight unit major from within the Bachelor of Media and Communication: Advertising, Broadcasting and Digital Journalism, Screen Production, Photomedia, Media & Cultural Studies, Screen Studies or Public Relations.

Students are required to complete a further eight units (120 credit points) in the form of an eight unit major, minor(s), and/or elective units. These may be selected from anywhere within the university. Generally, units in this course should be completed in year sequence (e.g. all first-year units should be completed before proceeding to second-year units).

Entry requirements

Admission requirement (Band 3)

All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • AQF Cert IV;
  • Successfully completed 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;
  • University Preparation Course;
  • Indigenous University Orientation Course;
  • Aboriginal University Readiness Assessment; or
  • Experience Based Entry Scheme.

English Language requirement (Band 3)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 12 English ATAR/English Literature ATAR grade C or better or equivalent;
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;
  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Successfully completed 1.0 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher in the UK, Ireland, USA, NZ or Canada;
  • University Preparation Course;
  • Indigenous University Orientation Course;
  • Aboriginal University Readiness Assessment;
  • AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent); or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.
