Federation University Australia
About
Are you ready to make the break from the traditional classroom?
Would you like to get a head start on your career while you finish secondary school and combine it with work placements with IBM?
If you answered 'yes' to these questions, then the P-Tech program at Federation College is the place to be.
The P-Tech curriculum prepares students to navigate the education-to-work transition earlier than is typical through partnership with industry and the opportunity to engage in the workforce.
The P-Tech model is based around a partnership between education and science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) industry sectors, to offer opportunities and support for students by providing:
An industry mentor Hands-on workplace experience Defined pathways to achieving a higher qualification Innovative approaches to learning Clear links to employment Learning opportunities using multiple teaching methods and tools P-Tech students will not only complete a senior secondary qualification, but will also undertake an industry supported qualification pathway.
P-Tech takes you from Year 10 through to an Diploma (in 4-5years), including senior secondary (Year 12).
The difference with this type of schooling is that while you study, you are also involved in industry, with an industry specific curriculum, work placements, industry contacts, mentors and projects.
Students are also first in line for future positions within IBM.
P-Tech is based on an American model, and is new to Australia.
Federation College in Ballarat has won the right to set up one of only two P-Tech programs in Australia.
As you move through the P-Tech programs, you will be supported by industry mentors as you work towards a science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) career, culminating in an diploma.
All mentors will come from the different departments of IBM Ballarat, and offer advice and support.
They will also be a friendly face when you put your new skills into practice during work placements and blocked paid internships.
What other secondary school program offers industry relevant curriculum, paid work placements and internships, and guaranteed priority position for employment with IBM?
