Archaeology (Honours)

The Bachelor of Archaeology (Honours) requires 1 year of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time).

The course is offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

To qualify for the Bachelor of Archaeology (Honours), a student must complete 36 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study below.

Not all topics are necessarily available in a given year.

Core - Year 1 topics

27 units comprising:

*With Honours co-ordinator approval students can replace HASS7003 Understanding Research Methods in Humanities and Social Sciences with CREA7100 Understanding Research Methods in the Creative Arts (4.5 units)

**Students undertaking a creative work as part of thesis must select CREA7001 Exegesis

Applicants must normally have a Bachelor of Archaeology or another qualification which the Dean (Education) agrees is equivalent and an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 or above.

A student who has completed all the requirements of the Bachelor of Archaeology, or another qualification which the Dean (Education) agrees is equivalent, may be accepted as a candidate for the honours degree providing a sufficiently high standard has been achieved in fulfilling the requirements for the bachelors degree.

On completion of this honours degree students will be able to:

• critically evaluate complex ideas, concepts and approaches in archaeological research at an advanced level
• develop research activities and prioritise their work independently
• effectively discuss their research, both orally and in writing
• create an extended piece of research, which includes interpreting and applying ethical considerations
• model their skills in a practical setting.
