The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) provides a pathway into the graduate entry Doctor of Medicine offered by the University of Melbourne in Shepparton for regional students intending to practice medicine in a regional location.
In this pre-medicine course, you’ll combine the fields of biology, pharmacology and medicine.
You will learn about the human body, its structure and its functions.
This includes understanding how disease manifests and how drug strategies are used to treat disease.
You’ll learn:
Practical skills needed to explore the underlying molecular basis of acute and chronic illnesses How to apply biomedical research How to convey scientific and biomedical science information.
Your studies will be held on rural campuses in Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga.
Subjects studied meet the admission criteria defined by the University of Melbourne for the Doctor of Medicine.
The University of Melbourne also requires students to have a 70 WAM (weighted average mark) and a continued commitment to country living whilst completing the course in order to guarantee a place in the Doctor of Medicine course.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.

Prerequisite
VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.
HSC: One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 3), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 4).

Stage 1 - To be considered to attend interview stage compulsory MMI, applicants must meet these minimum requirements: 1. Published course prerequisites not more than 10 years ago. 2. ATAR of 80.00 (without SEAS adjustment) 3. Submit Rurality Form and Academic Transcripts. Stage 2 - Applicant ranking for offer: 1. 30% Selection Rank (ATAR with SEAS adjustment-limit 10 aggregate points) 2. 70% performance at the MMI.
Geographical Classification - Remoteness Area (Compulsory)
To be eligible applicants must have resided (according to principal home address) for at least 5 years consecutively, or 10 years cumulatively, in areas classified by the most recent Australian Statistical Geographic Standard - Remoteness Areas (ASGS-RA) (2016) as RA2 to RA5 since birth and preferably have completed Years 11 and 12 at a school in an area classified as RA2 to RA5.
Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) (Compulsory)
Applicants offered a MMI will be sent an email in late December detailing the interview process and are required to attend interviews in early January. The MMI will consists of situational questions focusing on: advocacy, collaboration, critical thinking, empathy, ethical reasoning, motivation, and regional identification. The applicant must demonstrate adequate communication skills at the MMI.
Rurality Form (Compulsory)
All applicants must complete and submit a Rurality Form by no later than 5pm AEDT Friday 4 December 2020.
Applicants must:Provide evidence to demonstrate that they have resided for at least 5 years consecutively or 10 years cumulatively in remoteness areas classified as RA2 to RA5 since birth (according to principal home address) and preferably have completed Years 11 and 12 at a school in RA2 to RA5.Rurality statement - demonstrating your commitment to community.

Stage 2 - Applicant ranking for offer:
- 30% Selection Rank (ATAR with SEAS adjustment-limit 10 aggregate points or GPA) 70% performance at the MMI - including assessment of rural connectedness from Rurality Statement.
