Our flexible and practical degree helps define your creative output, empowering you to apply new concepts and analytical frameworks to your arts practice.

Major in Screen, Theatre, Visual Arts or Writing and graduate with the networks and entrepreneurial skills necessary for a successful career.

In the core subjects, you’ll learn to interpret, adapt, communicate and present ideas, problems and arguments for a variety of audiences.

In screen (Melbourne campus), you’ll understand how moving images change the world.

In theatre (Melbourne campus), you’ll explore the history of theatre through performance and production.

In visual arts (Bendigo and Mildura campuses), you’ll hone your technical and conceptual skills to better realise your artistic goals.

In writing (Bendigo and Melbourne campuses), you’ll learn how to craft narratives and write engaging prose.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.

Prerequisite

VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

HSC: One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 2), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 3).

Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

It is recommended that the STAT Multiple Choice test be completed by applicants who have either:

1. not completed Year 12 (or equivalent), VET or University studies, or work experience that can be considered for entry; or do not meet the minimum entry requirements for the program.

VCE: Screen, Theatre and Writing: A study score of 25 in Art, Drama, any Humanities, Legal Studies, Psychology, Studio Arts, Theatre Studies or Visual Communication Design equals 4 aggregate points per study. A study score of 20 in any LOTE equals 4 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 12 points.Visual Arts: A study score of 25 in Product Design And Technology, Studio Arts, Theatre Studies or Visual Communication Design equals 4 aggregate points per study.
