About

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) allows you to specialise your skills in these areas:

science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM) English humanities/arts health physical education languages (including Greek, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, Indonesian, French and Chinese).

Special Education - You also have the option to complete a sequence of study so you are qualified to teach as a Special Education teacher.

The program is designed to allow you to focus on social work and wellbeing as areas of study to further diversify your employment options as a primary teacher.

It builds your efficacy in diagnostic learning, special needs, learning how best to teach and relationship skill building.

When you graduate, you'll be prepared to meet the needs of the industry and will be ready to work in multiple education areas.

In the foundation year, you'll build strong knowledge around professional literacy and numeracy with awareness of contemporary approaches to learning.

You'll maximise your expertise and skills to be able to work in complex education settings.

The course incorporates a national literacy and numeracy test, which is a requirement of completion of Initial Teacher Education programs and a requirement for registration as a teacher.

All applicants accepted into the course are required to complete a Working with Children Check form prior to commencing placement in their second year.

You'll complete 80 days of professional experience during the course.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.

Entry requirements

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the last two years)

Prerequisite

VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in one of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics

HSC: One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 3), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 4).Any 2 units of Mathematics.

Subject adjustments

VCE: A study score of 25 in any Humanities, any LOTE, any Mathematics or any Science equals 2 aggregate points per study. A study score of 30 in English other than EAL equals 2 aggregate points per study. A study score of 35 in English (EAL) equals 2 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 12 points.

HSC: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 subjects will have their selection rank increased by one point per study: Performance Band 4 in English Standard or English Advanced: Performance Band 3 Mathematics General 2, Mathematics, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, humanities or any language other than English subjects. Overall, selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.
