Our Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) offers a powerful double-major degree, designed to help you succeed.
Co-designed with leading industry experts, you'll learn core skills across every aspect of business accounting and then move beyond – into corporate finance, international finance, entrepreneurship, risk management and investment and portfolio management.
Learn in a trading room equipped with Bloomberg Terminals, then use your access to obtain the Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certificate.

Our Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) is accredited by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), CPA Australia and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).1 You'll learn:
Financial and management accounting Recognise and apply the accounting principles that govern the preparation, presentation and communication of accounting information.
Learn how to use accounting software to record business transactions.
Security valuation and portfolio management Analyse financial information and value a range of financial securities using the Bloomberg Terminals.
Construct an investment portfolio to meet investor goals and risk profiles.
International financial markets Explain and critically evaluate the theories that underpin the operation of financial markets.
Auditing Understand concepts involved in the auditing process and integrate them with practical applications.
Tax Examine Commonwealth income tax legislation and the implications of income tax on individuals and businesses.
Law Explore the core principles of contract and consumer protection law, the law of negligence, property law and taxation law.
Understand how to work with different business structures.
Students must complete specific subjects to graduate with the CAANZ accredited qualification.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.

Entry requirements
Applicants with recent secondary education (within the last two years)
Prerequisite
VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.
Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

La Trobe will consider STAT Multiple Choice results for applicants where: the course has an English prerequisite equivalent to VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of 20 in English other than EAL, and/or Units 3 and 4: a study score of 20 in Further Mathematics, and, the course requirements through Work Recognition are not met, or Year 12 or equivalent has not been successfully completed.
