The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) will develop your skills to address the diverse academic and developmental needs of young people.
You'll gain discipline expertise to teach across the stages of secondary school.
Students will have the opportunity to specialise in two of the following disciplines:
English maths humanities (including history and geography) science (including physics, chemistry and biology) Languages Other Than English (LOTE), English as a Second Language (ESL) TESOL physical education health education visual arts drama psychology.
The design of the program reflects the school year, so you have the opportunity to undertake on-going school experience and ensure integration of knowledge of teaching and learning with practice.
You'll complete 80 days of professional experience during the course.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7.

Entry requirements
Applicants with recent secondary education (within the last two years)
Prerequisite
VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in one of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics
HSC: One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 3), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 4).Any 2 units of Mathematics.
Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Subject adjustments
VCE: A study score of 25 in any Humanities, any LOTE, any Mathematics or any Science equals 2 aggregate points per study. A study score of 35 in English (EAL) equals 2 aggregate points per study. A study score of 30 in English other than EAL equals 2 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 12 points.
HSC: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 subjects will have their selection rank increased by one point per study: Performance Band 3 in English Standard or English Advanced, Mathematics General 2, Mathematics, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, any science, humanities or any language other than English subject. Performance Band 4 in English as an Additional Language or Dialect. Overall, selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.
