This course is designed for qualified teachers who wish to develop specialist knowledge and skills in inclusive practices in classrooms and schools.

You’ll critically explore theory, current research, practical methods and regulatory contexts which inform effective strategies in supporting children, adolescents and adults with learning, social and behavioural challenges.

Structure

You will complete five core units which will provide you with the knowledge, skills and attributes required of skilled practitioners to effectively address the needs of learners with sensory, cognitive and behavioural issues.

Entry requirements

Qualifications

An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in initial teacher education* with at least a credit (60%) average and a minimum of two years relevant professional experience

OR

An Australian undergraduate (honours) degree and/or graduate diploma (or equivalent) in initial teacher education* with at least a credit (60%) average and a minimum of two years relevant professional experience.

OR

An Australian master’s degree (or equivalent) in initial teacher education* with at least a credit (60%) average and a minimum of two years relevant professional experience.

* must meet qualification requirements for teacher registration in Australia

English requirements

Applicants must also meet the English language requirements.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

demonstrate an understanding of the philosophical views and legislative structures, both nationally and internationally, which drive inclusive education

accommodate students with additional learning needs within regular classrooms

3.

establish learning environments which value diversity, recognize difference and encourage student engagement

4.

apply inclusive practices, including supportive and differentiated strategies, to enable student progress

5.

identify and implement interventions that facilitate and support inclusive education

6.

demonstrate critical thinking through engagement with current research in the field
