The degree develops through three areas - studies in history and theory and fine art knowledge, studio practice (for Fine Art) and practice (Art History and Curating) and electives.

In the Art history and curating specialisation you also undertake an internship and a final research project. In the Fine Art specialisations, there is a public exhibition normally developed during the final two studio units in the third year of the course.

Learn about key moments in art history by selecting from units that align with your interest. Explore different periods and places in European art of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries through to the rise of global events like the Art Biennale. Investigate how the art of the mid-20th century used mediums like photography, performance and multimedia to explore issues of identity, gender and sexuality.

Look beyond western societies and explore the art, people and cultures of regions such as Asia, the Pacific, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Indigenous art. This course is where you'll develop your communications skills and ability to discuss, engage with and evaluate cultural products.

Drawing foundation

Students in both specialisations start in first year with a Drawing unit that has been developed to accommodate all levels of ability. This subject will help you develop the capability to draw manufactured and natural form, investigating proportion and structure through line, tone, shape and texture. Those with highly developed drawing skills will develop the capabilities to apply that to design and making.
