A combined Mechanical and Mechatronics engineering degree provides the student with a significant skill set that will provide ongoing benefits.
Mechanical engineers facilitate modern society by designing and developing items that function as key infrastructure.
Though only a small area of mechanical engineering, the most recognisable mechanical engineering items are transportation devices including automobiles, trains, buses and aircraft.
Mechatronics engineers originated from Mechanical engineers though with a particular focus on the implementation of control theory, computers and electronic hardware.
The term Mechatronics is now well established and has its own distinct degree structure which is still rooted in mechanical engineering.
It is evident that a significant amount of mechatronics is involved in most modern mechanical devices and this program recognises that a broader skill base will be necessary in the future of mechanical or mechatronics engineering.
