Electrical and electronic engineering is a professional career that utilises mathematics, science, technology and problem solving skills to design, construct and maintain the products and services that underpin modern society.
Electrical and electronic engineering is the major area of expertise behind control and automation, telecommunications and networking, signal processing, analogue, digital and computer electronics and power generation, distribution and utilization.
It is also vital in new and emerging fields such as nanotechnology, robotics, renewable energy and the Internet of Things.Combined with an Engineering degree, a Science degree (with a major) opens up a diverse range of employment opportunities in private industry and government organisations.
Students can pursue a career in cutting edge areas like nanotechnology, telecommunications, fibre-optics, laser technology, medical physics, organic electronics and photovoltaics areas that are closely connected with Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
In particular, these are the areas that will constitute many of the future frontiers of electrical/electronic technology which this combined degree will open up to students.Students should note that the Physics and Photonics majors are currently the only Bachelor of Science majors available in this combined program.
