Research shows that co-operatives have demonstrated high levels of resiliency in the Global Economic Crisis across a number of business sectors.

Some co-operatives are among the largest and most efficient organisations in the world.

The Graduate Certificate in Co-operatives Mangement and Organisation is a 40 unit program requiring students to complete all the core courses.

The completion of the program provides students with an opportunity to open up new career avenues for students interested in the social responsibility of business and enables them to develop critical analytical skills in business ethics.

Entry requirements

Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Co-operatives Management and Organisation (40 units) is available to applicants who have:

  • 3 year Bachelors Degree not in a related field; or
  • 3 year Diploma in a related field such as economics, business, accounting, finance, human resource management, marketing, management; or
  • 3 year Diploma not in a related field + 1 year relevant business experience; or
  • 2 year Diploma in a related field such as economics, business, accounting, finance, human resource management, marketing, management + 2 years relevant business experience; or
  • 2 year Diploma not in a related field + 3 years relevant business experience; or
  • At least 5 years business experience.

Students will be required to successfully complete a Business Academic Skills Program (BASP) which will be of 6 weeks duration. The BASP will be non-fee based and can be completed concurrently with courses in the Graduate Certificate.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the program students will have:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective independent or collaborative work skills to apply specialised knowledge and expert judgement to co-operatives management and organisational tasks
  • Critical thinking and analytical problem solving skills to justify sound co-operatives management solutions
  • Specialised knowledge of theories, models and concepts relevant to co-operatives management and be proficient in their application
  • Decision making skills to apply understanding of ethical, cultural and global issues in co-operatives management decisions.
