Academic entry requirements

A completed recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent) not in nursing with a minimum volume of learning of 1.00 year full-time (or equivalent) completed within the past ten years.

If you have completed your degree more than ten years ago you must provide evidence with your QTAC application of further studies of a recognised graduate certificate (or higher) studies undertaken in the last ten years.

Selection ranks

You will be considered solely on the basis of selection ranks from your prior degree studies plus any postgraduate studies you may have undertaken. Other qualifications and experiences may be allocated selection ranks for entry to other QUT courses, but will not be considered for this course.

Additional entry requirements

You must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries:

• Australia
• Canada
• New Zealand
• Republic of Ireland
• South Africa
• United Kingdom
• United States of America

If you have not met these educational requirements, you are required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test (refer below).

English language proficiency

QUT requires you to demonstrate you can speak, write, read and comprehend academic English to a specified standard.

QUT’s English proficiency requirements for this course are:

• IELTS (Academic): 7.0 or better overall with no sub-score below 7.0
• PTE: 65 or better overall with no sub-score below 65
• TOEFL (IBT): 98 or better overall with a writing sub-score of 27 or better, listening and writing sub-scores of 24 or better, and speaking sub-score of 23 or better

The test must have been completed within two years prior to the proposed course start month.                                                                                                                   

QTAC Deferment

Deferment is not available for this course. Please reapply for the semester/year in which you want to study the course.

Automatic advanced standing (credit)

If admitted to the graduate entry program you will automatically receive one year of advanced standing which will entitle you to complete the degree in two years (full-time).

Advanced standing

If you have prior studies or work experience, you may be eligible for advanced standing (credit). You can apply for advanced standing once you've been accepted to QUT. If you're in your first semester of study, you must apply for advanced standing within 10 days of receiving your offer.

Nursing offers employment opportunities in Australia and overseas, in general and specialist areas such as emergency, paediatrics or mental health, and in other areas including community health, in-home care, school health, alcohol and drug dependence, and the armed services.

Many nurses complete further study and specialise in acute care nursing, cancer nursing, emergency nursing, intensive care nursing, mental health nursing, or paediatric, child and youth health nursing.

Professional recognition(DOM,INT)

This course has professional accreditation from the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. Our graduates are eligible to apply for registered nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Both students and graduates may apply for membership of the Australian College of Nursing.

QUT automatically registers students enrolled in this course with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in accordance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009.
