About
Upon successful completion of the program, you will have gained broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional work and/or further learning within the fashion and textiles industry.
This program will give you theoretical and technical knowledge of specific areas such as product development, supply chain, marketing, CAD/IT, fashion materials,digital strategies for fashion, buying and merchandise planning.You will learn to research, analyse, interpret and transmit solutions to unpredictable and sometimes complex problems.
This learning will be applied through project work, case studies and practical assignments.
You will also learn how to make judgements and work autonomously with defined responsibility before you apply and implement any actions or recommendations in fashion and textiles business environments.
Your experience in taking an active role in industry projects will help you develop work-ready capabilities and skills to promote yourself to prospective employers or potential clients in the local or global context.In your second year, you will undertake a capstone experience in "The Retail Initiative" (TRI) within GRAP2443 Fashion and Textiles Industry Research and GRAP2444 Fashion Apparel Product Development.
This experience will enable you to synthesise and integrate your knowledge, connect theory and practice, and holistically demonstrate the program learning outcomes.This program will also prepare you for career paths that include a range of areas such as Product Development, Merchandise Management, Merchandise Planning, Allocation Analyst, Retail Management, Brand Management, Digital Marketing, Fashion Marketing and Fashion Logistics.
This program will also prepare you to continue into higher education studies to further your exploration of concepts and research.All courses in this program are offered online and remotely.

Entry requirements
You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school) qualification.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.
International English language requirement
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.0, with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent.

Learning outcomes
The RMIT Associate Degree in Fashion and Textiles Merchandising is designed to develop a work-ready fashion merchandiser who will have broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional work and/or further learning. You will develop the requisite skills and graduate capabilities to succeed in the rapidly evolving fashion and textiles industry. This program has a strong emphasis on teamwork within a business environment contextualised for merchandising. You will be prepared for employment through the development of interrelationships and direct contact with industry.
When you graduate from this program you will be equipped with distinct program learning outcomes. You will be able to:
1. Apply and creatively adapt a body of theoretical and technical knowledge and skills in sourcing requirements to meet cultural and social needs of the target market.
2. A broad theoretical and technological knowledge of current business and professional practices leading to marketing and merchandising fashion products both locally and globally.
3. Investigate, analyse and interpret trends on design, materials and trims in fashion and related industry either locally or globally.
4. Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your study to demonstrate personal and professional attributes to be work ready.
5. Analyse and interpret data to communicate effectively in roles of buyers, allocators and planners.
6. Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation when identifying and responding to problems in diverse context within the fashion and textiles industry.
