The Associate Degree in Screen and Media Production program will equip you with the broad knowledge and skills you need to maximise your opportunity to follow a career within mainstream industry or within a specialised niche businesses.

You will prepare to undertake production projects, assist others in productions, and work as part of a production team.

On successful completion of the program, you will have gained the essential knowledge and skills to enable you to work as a paraprofessional in a creative, freelance or in-house capacity within the film, television or online media industry, or in a production or organization role within the corporate, educational, cultural, government or non-government organisation sectors where practical media skills and knowledge are required.

As a graduate of this program, you will be able to apply your knowledge and skills across varied genres and formats of screen-based media production, bringing flexibility, initiative and creative problem-solving to your work.

You will be capable of working within a changing and challenging environment, with awareness of emerging production trends, practical skills in relevant technologies, experience of diverse and collaborative projects, and an ability to gather information on audience and market expectations and trends.

Entry requirements

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school) qualification.

Prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in English other than EAL.

Selection task

All applicants must complete and submit the selection task.

International English language requirements

Learning outcomes

The RMIT Associate Degree in Screen and Media Production is designed to develop informed and work-ready graduates who will have the requisite knowledge and skills to succeed in and contribute to the rapidly evolving contemporary screen media production environment. On successful completion of this program you will be able to:

1. produce screen and media content with high production values for a range of platforms and environments

2. apply industry relevant knowledge and skills to devise, develop and build contemporary screen and media content for diverse audiences and contexts

3. apply and creatively adapt theoretical and technical knowlege and skills in screen and media production to your practice or future study

4. identify, analyse and reflect on relevant trends in screen and media production in both local and international contexts.

5. demonstrate critical thinking and innovation when identifying and responding to problems in diverse contexts within screen and media production

6. communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders about your discipline

7. work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness.

8. apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making as a writer, editor or future student.
