About

The Bachelor of Business (International Business) program provides you with technical and critical knowledge and skills in international business to apply in diverse global contexts.

A broad-based curriculum incorporates:

international business, finance, trade, logistics, responsible business, cross-cultural management, political economy of international business, and creativity, innovation and design.

The program focuses on professional training in contemporary international business.

In addition to the core program courses you can take a range of minors and electives from across the School of Management and College of Business, and also from the International Studies program (in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies) and from the University more widely.

You can also learn a language and engage in study abroad.

Over the duration of this program you will participate in a variety of learning experiences which are designed to support you in developing skills as an International Business graduate.

Learning and teaching approaches for this program may include lectures and tutorials, problem-based learning, case studies, work-integrated learning, assignments, projects and examinations.

Activities and assignments are designed to facilitate theory application and peer learning in a friendly, open atmosphere.

This program provides opportunities to apply and consolidate your knowledge and skills in a practical workplace setting during the third year of the program.

Upon completion of your practical placement, you will employ the tools and experiences gained to innovate, design and solve business-related problems in two business design project courses.

The program includes the capstone courses BUSM4689 Political Economy of International Business, BUSM4367 International Business Design Project 1, and BUSM4368 International Business Design Project 2 which will provide you with the opportunity to critically reflect on and consolidate your theoretical and practical learning.

These courses will promote the application of the curriculum in discipline related real-world scenarios leading to work readiness or entry to graduate studies.The program will prepare you to work as a professional in a wide range of industries, government and non- government organisations that increasingly require high level international skills, such as business, finance, trade, logistics, corporate responsibility and management.

This program is available for on-campus study.

Entry requirements

Applicants with recent secondary education (current and within the past two years):

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent. If applicable, this includes equity access schemes and any other adjustment factors.

Vocational Education and Training study applicants:

Successful completion of an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma or equivalent overseas qualification.

Higher Education Diploma applicants:

Successful completion of an Australian Higher Education Diploma or equivalent overseas qualification with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 / 60% Weighted Average Mark (WAM).

Associate Degree applicants:

Domestic applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of four courses in an Australian Associate Degree with GPA converted to ATAR and no double-fail in any required course of the receiving degree.

International applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of an Australian Associate Degree.

All Bachelor Degree applicants:

Domestic applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of two courses in an Australian Bachelor Degree with GPA converted to ATAR and no double-fail in any required course of the receiving degree.

International applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of four courses in an Australian Bachelor Degree with a GPA of 2.0 and no double-fail in any required course of the receiving degree.

Open Universities Australia (OUA) applicants:

Successful completion of two Open Universities Australia higher education units with a GPA of 2.0.

Entrance requirements for international onshore applicants:

All non-Australian residents and overseas full-fee paying students are required to meet RMIT English language requirements. For more information on these requirements see English Language Requirements at RMIT.

Applicants with Work and Life experience:

You may satisfy the academic requirements by completing the STAT multiple choice. If you are applying to RMIT as an applicant with work or life experience, you may sit the STAT multiple choice if you:

  • are 19 years of age or over as of 1 January in the year in which you will start your studies and
  • have not been enrolled in secondary studies for at least two years and
  • have no prior secondary school (Year 12), VET studies, HE studies or relevant work experience that can be considered for entry, or these do not meet the minimum academic requirements for the program

STAT results are valid for two years prior to the commencement of study and can be used to meet Year 12 English prerequisites. You are still required to meet all other program prerequisites or equivalents.

Learning outcomes

In this program you will learn and apply the relevance and utility of a range of international business theories dealing with complex issues in international trade, finance and management. You will gain knowledge about the influences of political, economic, social and cultural factors on international business, and socially responsible business practice globally. You will develop skills and abilities to manage business in a variety of contexts, and apply your knowledge and skills to think critically, creatively and morally about functions and strategies of international business organisations in competitive business environments.
