About
The Bachelor of Applied Science (Health and Physical Education) is oriented towards the preparation of specialist primary and secondary health and physical education teachers whose responsibilities may include teaching, coaching, health and fitness promotion, physical and sport education for school and community programs.On completion of this program you should be able to demonstrate and apply your knowledge and understanding of:physical education content and disciplinary concepts related to the development of a physically educated person how individuals learn and develop in order to provide opportunities that support physical, cognitive, social and emotional development how individuals differ in their approaches to learning to create appropriate instruction adapted to these differences individual and group motivation and behaviour to create a safe learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to enhance learning and engagement in physical education settings the importance of planning developmentally appropriate instructional units to foster the development of a physically educated person varied types of assessment and their contribution to an overall program and the development of the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains the importance of being a reflective practitioner and its contribution to overall professional development, actively seeking opportunities to sustain professional growth information technology in order to enhance learning and personal and professional productivity the necessity of fostering collaborative relationships with colleagues, parents/guardians and community agencies to support the development of a physically educated person research, development of standards and dissemination of information to increase support for high-quality physical education, sport and physical activity programs in schools applied science courses to physical education and sporting situations.
all of the above in order to teach physical education and a second teaching subject at Years Prep to Year 12The courses OHTH2127 Theory and Practice in Health and Physical Education 4A, TCHE1057 Field Experience - Teaching Practice A and TCHE2061 Field Experience - Teaching Practice B provide a capstone experience for final year students.
The capstone focuses on enhancing your employability skills and easing your transition from student to graduate teacher.
You will integrate knowledge, skills and their application from your prior studies.
You will continue to develop and conslidate your professional portfolios.
You will complete a final teaching placement over an eight week period during the final semester.
You will also have the opportunity to undertake a mentoring role to assist a year one student transition into university and life as a teacher.
You will complete a range of assessment tasks to ensure that you are classroom ready, including the preparation of curriculum planning for foundation to year 12;
applying for teaching positions, preparing a resume, responding to selection criteria and mock interviews;
and the development of assessment and reporting processes and documents.
You will also complete a leadership module which covers a range of skills, issues and processes essential to be a leader within school settings.This program requires on-campus attendance.

Entry requirements
Program entry requirements
Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent.

Prerequisites
Year 12: Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of General Mathematics or Maths: Mathematical Methods; and Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; and a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Maths: Mathematical Methods (CAS), Maths: Specialist Mathematics, Physical Education or Physics.
Non-Year 12: As for Year 12 or equivalent.
Subject Bonus : A study score of 25 in one but no more than three of Biology, Chemistry, Maths: Mathematical Methods (CAS), Maths: Specialist Mathematics, Physical Education or Physics equals 2 aggregate points per study.
English language requirements
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0; or equivalent.

CASPer Test
All applicants must sit the CASPer test. CASPer is a requirement for many of the initial teacher training courses in Victoria. It is a non-cognitive online test designed to assess an applicant's personal and professional attributes. Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) (Year 12-Some, Non-Year 12-Some): Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements listed in the Admissions Tests section (www.vtac.edu.au/admissions-tests/stat/need-stat/inst-use- stat.html) must sit the STAT Multiple Choice.
SEAS : Applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage are encouraged to submit a SEAS application.
