About
The Textile Technology programs at RMIT will ensure you are work-ready as a textile technologist for a range of industries including fashion apparel (sportswear and performance), design, medical, industrial textiles, automotive, furnishing, enviromental, and interior industries in Australia and overseas.The program combines technical knowledge and computer aided design (CAD) skills with exploration in design and creativity for the production of marketable products in textiles.
The science of textiles is integrated to provide a fertile ground for new discoveries and innovations, drawing together individual expertise and diverse ideas from varying fields.The program focuses on the theory and practical application in the areas of product development, product design, product engineering, global marketing and management in diverse areas of textiles.
You will build your expertise and knowledge of yarn, knitted, woven and non-woven fabrics and related processes, colour theory, dyeing and printing, product development, design and evaluation.Product development studies incorporate the latest computer aided design systems, which enable you to create, develop, trial and evaluate new product design in a simulated commercial environment.

Entry requirements
Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent.

Prerequisites
Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English.
Selection tasks
Non year 12 applicants must submit a VTAC Personal Statement or direct applicant statement and include their reasons for wanting to study the course. Applicants should also detail any work experience when completing a VTAC Personal Statement or direct applicant statement.
English language requirements
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent.

Learning outcomes
The RMIT Bachelor of Applied Science (Textile Technology) program is designed to develop a work ready textile technologist who will have the requisite skills and knowledge to succeed in the rapidly evolving fashion and textiles industry.
