About
This program, Bachelor of Design (Animation and Interactive Media), offers you a degree in the design and production of animation and interactive media.
It combines industry-based knowledge and professional skills with theory in linear and interactive animation.
The program offers you a creative and supportive environment of design endeavour.
It emphasises intellectual investigation and creative conceptual development.
In this program you will build from a base of animation and design knowledge and skills.
You will then choose a specialisation in:animation and interactive design, including animation (2D and 3D), motion graphics, special effects, interactive media.You will experience a variety of interactive learning and teaching approaches.
These will be both face-to-face and online.
There is a combination of studios, lectures and production workshops.
You will engage in individual and team projects using industry-standard software, tools and processes.
In the final year of this program you will undertake a major project as a capstone experience.
This will enable you to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the program.
On successful completion of this program you will be a professional practitioner in the design and development of animation and interactive media.
This may involve:developing content for business and communications and entertainment industries analysing issues, applying creative processes, working with others and communicating informed ideas applying independent judgement to problems relating to innovative design, conceptual development and production.Graduates of this program will be prepared for diverse roles, both local and international.
These roles may include:
animators, 3D visualisers and modellers, web designers, interface designers, motion graphic designers, game art developers and data visualisers.

Entry requirements
You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school) qualification.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.
International English language requirement
A minimum of IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English requirements web page.
Selection task
All applicants must complete and submit the selection task. Some applicants may be required to attend a folio presentation.
Learning outcomes
As a graduate of this program you will be able to:
- Employ a body of theoretical knowledge of visual systems, narrative structures and navigational forms to communicate animated linear and interactive concepts.
- Utilise technical skills in motion and interaction design, through a range of authoring systems, to visualise, structure and construct effective linear and interactive media outcomes.
- Apply initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice or future study.
- Work with others in a range of roles and contexts demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.
- Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the discipline.
- Communicate using diverse formats and strategies to audiences within and external to your discipline.
- Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on the discipline of Animation and Interactive Media based in both local and international contexts.
- Apply a body of theoretical and practical knowledge and specific skills in media and communication, in which to base your professional practice or future study.
