The capabilities of a graduate architect are extensive and are set out in the ACCA competency standards for accreditation (http://www.aaca.org.au/NCSA01.PDF) as well as the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Education policy. It is expected that an RMIT graduate exceeds these and demonstrates a high level of integrated skill in design. These are set out in the program learning outcomes matrix.

As a graduate from the Bachelor of Architectural Design you have commenced upon the path toward becoming a graduate architect, and are capable of entering design practices with a level of skill which would allow you to assist in a design project team and contribute to it with independent ideas.

As a graduate, you will have skills in computer based architectural communication as well as other modes of communication, architecture technology and architecture history, all of which are integrated through design. You will have undertaken six design studios, the final one being an upper pool design studio with Master of Architecture students.

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:

  • apply design knowledge to solve a range of architectural problems in diverse contexts
  • critically analyse, evaluate and make informed judgment on a wide range of architectural problems and situations
  • demonstrate and articulate design skills from concept formation through to design development
  • integrate a body of practical and theoretical knowledge into your design process
