About
The Bachelor of Architectural Design (BP250) is a three year degree program providing you with a broad and coherent knowledge and skill base of the discipline of architecture.
The program has a design focus with strong links to practice, offering exposure to a wide range of design led project based learning.
The Design Studio forms the core of the program and is supported by Architecture History and Theory, Architecture Technology, Architecture Communications and Architecture General Electives.
As capstone experiences, you will undertake a Design Studio with students in the Master of Architecture and also prepare a portfolio of work reflecting on your learning achievements in Design Studio.RMIT Architecture is primarily focused on design and has an international reputation for design excellence.
The program is known for promoting ideas-led venturous design exploration and design innovation.
The program assists you to develop an understanding of architecture, while providing you with a diverse set of skills and learning experiences.
The Bachelor of Architectural Design is the first step on the path to becoming an architect.The program is a pathway to further study and employment in architectural and design practice.

Entry requirements
You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school) qualification.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in any other English.
English language requirement
A minimum of IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English requirements web page.
Selection task
All applicants must complete the selection task. Short-listed applicants are required to participate in an interview.
Learning outcomes
The capabilities of a graduate architect are extensive and are set out in the ACCA competency standards for accreditation (http://www.aaca.org.au/NCSA01.PDF) as well as the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Education policy. It is expected that an RMIT graduate exceeds these and demonstrates a high level of integrated skill in design. These are set out in the program learning outcomes matrix.
As a graduate from the Bachelor of Architectural Design you have commenced upon the path toward becoming a graduate architect, and are capable of entering design practices with a level of skill which would allow you to assist in a design project team and contribute to it with independent ideas.
As a graduate, you will have skills in computer based architectural communication as well as other modes of communication, architecture technology and architecture history, all of which are integrated through design. You will have undertaken six design studios, the final one being an upper pool design studio with Master of Architecture students.
Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
- apply design knowledge to solve a range of architectural problems in diverse contexts
- critically analyse, evaluate and make informed judgment on a wide range of architectural problems and situations
- demonstrate and articulate design skills from concept formation through to design development
- integrate a body of practical and theoretical knowledge into your design process
- comprehend key architectural works, cultural movements and ideas, their theoretical and cultural context and relevance to design
- communicate complex design ideas through verbal, visual and written media
- reflect upon your learning achievements in design, taking responsibility for your future design direction and continued learning
- develop an awareness of environmental factors affecting the built environment
