About
The fundamental goal of the Bachelor of Health, Physical Education and Sport (Secondary) program is to prepare you with the professional knowledge and practical skills to teach in diverse school settings.
The program has a strong core curriculum, with an explicit focus on teaching practice, and you will learn to use a range of teaching strategies that both engage and cater for learner needs, use assessment and data to inform and review practice, and use critical reflection to impact future action in the classroom.
This program also aims to prepare you to work with your teaching colleagues and community to enhance the teaching profession.
Through close partnerships with schools and other stakeholders, and a shared vision, the program aims to develop a shared commitment and responsibility to teacher education.The program prepares you for the dynamic and challenging world of education and provides you with globally transferable skills and a qualification that can lead you to practising as a teacher in Australia and overseas.
You will experience a variety of contemporary, interactive learning and teaching approaches, including both face-to-face and online delivery modes.
You will have the opportunity to participate in a range of innovative Professional Experience practices within a variety of educational settings that integrate theory and practice.
In your third year, you will also have the opportunity to undertake a mentoring role to assist a year one student transition into university and life as a teacher.
One key course will provide a capstone experience for final year students.
The capstone focuses on enhancing your employability skills and easing your transition from student to graduate teacher.
This program requires on-campus attendance.

Entry requirements
Academic requirement:
Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent with an ATAR (or equivalent) of 70, inclusive of selection rank adjustments.

Pre-requisites
- Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: any.
- A study score of at least 30 in Units 3 and 4 English (EAL) or at least 25 in any other English.
English language requirements (for international students)
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 7.5 with a minimum score of 7.0 in reading and writing and 8.0 in speaking and listening.

Selection Tasks
CASPer Test
All applicants must sit the CASPer test. CASPer is a requirement for many of the initial teacher training courses in Victoria. It is a non-cognitive online test designed to assess an applicant's personal and professional attributes. Working with children check
Please note that to undertake the Professional Experience courses in year one to year four of the program, you must provide a satisfactory working with children check. If you are not able to provide this, you will be unable to complete the program.
Literacy and numeracy test
In order to register with VIT, students will be required to pass the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teachers prior to graduating from their program. This test is mandated by the Federal Government and is administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
