About

The Certificate IV in Education Support assists people wanting to work in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools and community education settings that provide assistance and support to teachers and learners under broad based supervision.

Education Support workers work closely with teachers, collecting and/or developing teaching resources, setting up and operating equipment, undertaking administrative and student supervision duties and participating in teaching activities.

Some job roles may require tasks to be performed with a moderate level of autonomy and/or the provision of supervision/leadership to other staff/volunteers.

Completion of the qualification will enable you to:provide teaching/learning/mentoring assistance within early childhood, primary and secondary collegesprovide general teaching/learning/mentoring assistance within community recreation, early childhood, literacy, numeracy and special needs supportwork as a Home tutorwork as an Education Support Worker, Teacher assistant (Special Needs) or Teacher aide

There are no minimum academic requirements.

Selection task

All applicants must attend an interview.

Working with Children Check (WWC) You will be required to hold a valid Working with Children Check prior to undertaking practical placements.

Learning outcomes

This nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification delivers competency-based training and assessment, designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge (competency) needed to perform effectively in the work you are training for. Competency-based assessment allows you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to complete workplace activities, safely and consistently, at the standard required in your job, in a range of situations and environments. This could involve showing an assessor how you plan and carry out tasks while explaining what you know about the task and the relevant work environment. It could also involve completing a project and reporting on the both the process and outcomes.

If you are working, your work supervisor may provide the assessor with a report on the skills and knowledge you have demonstrated.

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (e.g. through prior paid or voluntary work experience), you can be assessed and have these skills and knowledge formally recognised.
