To create a scalable new venture is a challenging and complex task.

The road to entrepreneurial success can have many pitfalls, obstacles and blind turns.

The risks of starting a new business are high, as illustrated by the high failure rates for new ventures.

However, the rewards are commensurate with the risk.

In addition to the personal satisfaction of starting a successful business, successful scalable businesses generate enormous financial returns for founders, have the potential to transform entire industries, locally, regionally and globally.The purpose of this program is to help students understand the process, challenges, risks and rewards of starting up a new venture;

equip you with the tools required to start your business;

and improve your chances of successfully raising money for a startup.

As a student in this program, you will learn the progression of new venture creation through a series of collaborative and authentic learning experiences.In this program, you will develop an idea for a new business, create a professional-level business plan and investor presentation, and present the business plan to a panel of investor judges.

This program culminates in a capstone experience that involves producing a comprehensive business plan that could be presented to an angel investor or a venture capitalist.

Each business plan will showcase the venture’s value proposition and innovation;

market identification and analysis;

marketing and sales strategy;

and sustainable competitive advantage.This program is offered in flexible delivery mode, with digital and face-to-face components.

Entry requirements

Entrance requirements

Credit will be assessed consistent with the principles of the RMIT University's Credit Policy.

Applicants who have completed studies or have partially completed a similar program at another institution (with entry criteria similar to this program) may be accepted with some credits being granted towards the program.

Articulation arrangements between RMIT University programs enable students upon graduating from the RMIT University qualification to apply for advanced standing in a higher-level qualification.

The Graduate Certificate Business Startup courses (4) will all be electives, accepted in each of the graduate programs including Master of Business Administration (MBA), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), and Master of International Business (MIB)

Minimum Academic Requirements:

You are required to have a minimum three-year undergraduate degree in any discipline with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (out of 4.0) or other equivalent work experience, defined as follows:

A minimum of 3 years in a business management role with supervisory responsibilities. Reviewed on a case by case basis. (Applicants will be required to submit a CV which outlines supervision of staff, performance review and responsibility to budget.)

Minimum English Language Requirements:

One of the following:

Successful completion of RMIT Vietnam English Advanced Level

IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0);

TOEFL Paper based 580+ (TWE 4.5+);

TOEFL Computer based 233+ (TWE 4.5+);

TOEFL Internet based 92+ (no band below 20);

Note: TOEFL and IELTS are recognised for two years from the test date. RMIT English results are only recognised for one year from the course completion date.

Learning outcomes

As a graduate certificate entrepreneur startup student, you will be required to engage in concepts, theories, strategies and analysis of startup tools.You will integrate marketing theory and technical proficiency in a range of marketing applications and contexts that enable you to respond to specific business situations. Your focus will be on the customer’s perspective and value creation, while accepting your accountability to competing stakeholders. The graduate certificate program responds directly to the rapidly evolving needs of the entrepreneurship field in a competitive world.
